Donald R. Jones

Donald R. Jones, 86, of Coventry, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Kent Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of fifty-nine years to Julia A. (Darling) Jones.

Born in Providence on January 3, 1937, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mildred (Tucker) Jones. Donald was raised in Coventry and was a graduate of Coventry High School and honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  Don owned and operated Don’s Auto Top in Coventry for over fifty years, retiring at the age of 82.  

A lifelong resident of Coventry, Don enjoyed golf, the New York Yankees, his many friends, “the land” in New York, Poland Spring Maine, causing trouble, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and granddogs.

In addition to his loving wife, Don is survived by two beloved sons:  Joseph W. Jones and his wife, Susan of Coventry and Brian P. Jones and his wife, Kris of Waterford, CT; a beloved daughter: Ashley K. Jones of Cincinnati, OH; a brother:  Thomas Jones of West Warwick; three sisters:  Judy Guglielmo of Cranston, Janice Baldwin of AZ, and Vivian Jones of CA; three cherished grandchildren:  Cassie A. Jones of West Warwick, Corinne B. Jones of Cranston and Kayleigh J. Jones of Waterford, CT; and many nieces and nephews. He was the loving brother of the late Arthur Jones, Gerald Jones, Connie Church, Phylis Jones, and Dorothy Curwick.  

Family and Friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 2 PM – 5 PM in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Road (ROUTE 3), Coventry.  A Funeral will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 10 AM from the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Saints John and Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry.

Military Honors will be accorded at the conclusion of the Mass of Christian Burial acknowledging Donald’s honorable service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  Burial will be held at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Greenwich.
